These guides take a significant amount of time and effort to make, and anything that can be given is extremely appreciated.

How to get the best equipment in the game, including Rank 40 Weapons and Accessories

If you're new to Disgaea, you'll need decent equipment in addition to grinding your character levels and stats.

Your characters will have proficiencies in weapons, so you'll want the best fist for Zed, and the best wands for your spellcasters, to give an example. You'll also want 3 good accessories for each character.

What kind of accessories should you get? You'll want to get the best shoes in the game as well as the best "emblem" item (emblem items boost all your stats and are very useful).

You need to do this because you can only raise your stats so much from leveling up and from the Juice Bar stat extracts. The remainder will have to come from equipment.

Item Ranks and Rarity Explained

In all Disgaea games, items have a rank, not to be confused with the rarity of the item.

The rarity is a stat that is available to see on the item and varies from 0 to 100, higher being rarer, and having items of the same rarity will give an additional bonus to the items. Going into the Item World and maxing out the item can lead to it getting more and more rare.

The item rank, however, refers to the actual item itself, and the item rank number is not actually visible on the item itself. The item rank is tied to the name, and you'll have to look up a chart of weapon names to find out what rank your item is, but in general higher ranked equipment is more powerful.

There's now a way to check your item's rank in Disgaea 6. Progress the story to get the Item Research Squad, and talk to the ninja in your home base to access it. Then, hover over your items and it'll display a Rank Limit among other item properties, which is pretty much its Item Rank.

The names of weapons and accessories may vary slightly between different Disgaea games, but in general you can look up charts of Item Ranks in older Disgaea games to get a general idea.

Item ranks go from 1 to 40, meaning there are 40 kinds of fists in the game, 40 kinds of wands, 40 kinds of axes, etc.

The exception are the other kinds of items, such as belts, shoes, glasses, muscles, emblems, etc, where they might be only roughly 10 of each of those items or so, but we still refer to the best equipment in that set as rank 40.

To give a quick concrete example, for fists Thimble is rank 1, Rubber Gloves is rank 2, etc, and Ultimus is rank 39.

How to get higher-ranked weapons and accessories

To buy better equipment from shops, you need to spend money in the shops, by first farming as much HL currency as possible, then spending it. You can buy a bunch of items, sell it back to the shop, then buy it again, etc.

Then, check the Dark Assembly for a bill called "Make the Shop have Better Items!", and pass it to get better equipment in the shops. You can only do this so many times in a given chapter, in order for the bill to show up again you'll need to progress a few chapters in the main story.

As well, the shop will only sell items up to a certain rank, and the rest you'll need to find on your own. You can try turning up the enemy difficulty in the Cheat Shop and play story maps to see if the enemies have better equipment. You'll then need to use a thief to steal these items from the enemies.

Another trick is to go into the Item World of the highest ranked item you have, and keep going deeper and deeper into the floors and see if any enemies have new rare equipment you don't already have.

The method to guarantee Rank 40 items

There's a trick, the boss "Item God 2" on floor 100 will always have the next ranked item, but you need to steal it using a powerful thief with a strengthened stealing skill (you don't automatically get items from enemies you defeat!).

A guaranteed method to get the Rank 40 Fist Weapon is to first go into the Rank 39 Fist Weapon (which is Ultimus), go down to floor 100, and steal it from Item God 2 on floor 100.

In Disgaea 6, you can keep continuing in the Item World after floor 100, so you can get more of the item every 100 floors because Item God 2 will spawn each 100 floors. This applies to any type of item as well, not just for fists. The Item God will also likely be carrying good accessories as well for you to grab!

Easy method to get Rank 39 Weapons

So you know how to get Rank 40 items from Rank 39 items, but how do you get those? We know you folks don't want to do Item World through all these ranked items, but thankfully there's an easy way to grab Rank 39 Weapons.

To acquire them, you need to master the weapon proficiency on a character, by either grinding or by using the Juice Bar (which itself requires grinding HL currency), then unlock the D-merit reward for maxing the weapon proficiency. Then use the Item World trick explained earlier to get the corresponding Rank 40 weapon.

There may be other ways to get the items, such as DLC maps or postgame maps having enemies or optional bosses who have Rank 40 items as well, so keep on the lookout before defeating these enemies because they may only spawn once.

Remember that the first time you do the map may have different enemies with different equipment, compared to when you repeat the map.

The Rank 40 Accessories and Items to get

In general, get the best weapons you're using for your characters. For accessories, Barefoot X is the best shoes item, and Trapezohedron is the best Emblem accessory.

For shoes, Angel's Shoes leads to Accelerator, to Vernier Thruster, to Barefoot X. For emblems, Testament leads to Exodus, to Arcadia, to Trapezohedron.

Although you can max weapon proficiencies, you may need to go through the Item World's of various shoe items because you can't get them as a D-merit reward like the Rank 39 Weapons. You can get an Testament as the last Hospital Prize.

How to upgrade these Rank 40 items after you acquire them

To upgrade these items, keep going deeper into the Item World. Items can now be leveled by travelling to floor 9999 in Disgaea 6, instead of being limited to only 100 floors. To do that easily, you'll need to autobattle through the Item World, which we have a method for in the linked guide.

Hold on! There are Carnage and Rakshasa verions of all items in the game!

Hold on a moment because there are Carnage and Rakshasa versions of items. (You cannot convert regular items into these variants, you'll need to get them again!)

So before you completely max out your weapons and accessories, there are actually even more powerful versions of items!

After beating the game and some post-game, there are new maps called Carnage maps, and then after that there are Rakshasa maps.

Each of these dimensions have all the items found in your regular playthrough, but they are Carnage and Rakshasa versions of them, which are substantially powered-up compared to the regular versions of the items you already have.

Even the Rank 1 item from the Carnage dimension is more powerful than the Rank 40 item in the regular dimension. The same goes for the Rakshasa dimension, it's far more powerful than the Land of Carnage items.

So before spending significant time maxing out the Rank 40 items, you may want to hold off and try the Carnage, and then the Rakshasa dimensions.

Every other step in this guide is the same for acquiring the Rank 40 items in the Carnage and Rakshasa dimensions, but the enemies are now substantially powered-up, so you'll need to keep grinding your stats and levels to make sure you're well-prepared!

Unfortunately, you can't get Carnage nor Rakshasa weapons from the D-Merits tabs, but the method is the same otherwise. We got higher ranked items by autobattling on any Carnage/Rakshasa item worlds, eventually from the bonus bar you'll automatically get better and better Carnage/Rakshasa items.

Otherwise you can manually steal better weapons/equipments from the enemies in the Carnage/Rakshasa Item World, but the stealing rate is low even with a maxed-out thief build.

Just autobattle overnight in the Carnage/Rakshasa Item World with very powerful characters, and when you wake up check your inventory and you should have better Carnage/Rakshasa items from the bonus bars for completing each of the maps.

Then repeat, go into the better items, go deeper into them, and get better items. Be forewarned, you'll need very powerful characters to survive! Otherwise if you're not strong enough to do it overnight, maybe try autobattle for an hour or two.

Generally if you're not sure what accessories to use, we max out 3 Trapezohedron accessories for each character and the weapon that they're best at using. We didn't max out Barefoot X's because you can significantly improve your character movement by farming Karma and then Super Reincarnating with movement bonuses.
